Behind The Scenes: Preparing Material

Nathan Coe Marsh

How much work is involved in creating a great guest experience? Here’s a quick peek behind the scenes.

The above is taken from a spreadsheet that I use to track hours of practice on a new stunt for the show. The 103 hours logged here represent just the mastery of the technique involved — this is the time invested for the piece to physically work.

Now that this technical foundation has been laid, the next layer of work begins — shaping a stunt into a piece of entertaining live theater for your event. This is the phase where the comedy is written, music cues — if appropriate — are chosen, the blocking (choreography of the stage movement and placement of the action on the stage) developed. Once that has put a solid enough polish on the new piece, it will go into the furnace of live performance and be tested and refined through 42 performances this Summer.

This is the work being invested into one 90 second segment of the 60 minute experience that is The Nathan Coe Marsh Show.

Your guests experience is the result of — literally — thousands of hours of careful preparation. I’ve been preparing my whole life for your event, and I can’t wait for us to get started.
